Announces JAOS Western Mojave Adventure Rally
LANCASTER, Calif (March 30, 2004) - - Organizers of the Rim of the World Rally have announced that an Adventure Rally will be included in the rally weekend activities. Off-road enthusiasts and novices alike are invited to take part in a unique competition challenging a teams’ driving and navigation skills during the first running of the JAOS Western Mojave Adventure Rally presented by Magellan, May 8 and 9, 2004. This two-day event headquartered at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds 40-minutes north of Los Angeles will allow experienced as well as first time off-roaders to enjoy the scenic trails of the Southern California Desert. Utilizing hand held GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) units and easy to follow maps and instructions, competitors will follow a predetermined course, complete with a treasure hunt and stops at scenic and historic sites along the way. A similar annual Adventure Rally has been run five years in a row at the Grand Canyon in conjunction with the FIA-listed Ramada Express
International Rally. “We are excited to bring the Adventure Rally concept from its home in the Grand Canyon and share it with our Off-Road and Outdoor friends in Southern California,” said Roger Allison, president of the American Rally Sport Group and organizer of the JAOS Western Mojave Adventure Rally presented by Magellan. “The Adventure Rally is a fun filled challenge for the whole family and promotes teamwork while enjoying the splendor and scenery of the great
outdoors.” Sport Utility Vehicles, Trucks and even passenger cars (no convertibles for safety reasons) are invited to participate in this two day event that includes GPS navigation training, a practice rally, trailside lunch during Sunday’s
stage and your own Magellan GPS unit to keep. Adventure rallyists will set forth on dirt trails and fireroads through the Lancaster and Palmdale regions of Southern California’s Mojave high desert region. Guided by rally-style course notes and directions based on GPS coordinates, teams will locate hidden treasures along the way. Scheduled stops along the Adventure Rally course include
old mining towns, scenic local mountain villages and seldom visited historic
points of interest. The 2004 JAOS Western Mojave Adventure Rally presented by Magellan will situate right next door to the SCCA ProRally Championship Rim of the World Rally taking place Friday May 7 through Saturday May 8. The Antelope Valley Fairgrounds will play host over the race weekend to the ProRally Service area, a European-style “side-by- side” rally Stadium SuperStage, an indoor Rally EXPO as well as hundreds of cars from various enthusiast clubs on display
