Subaru Rim of the World Rally
Lancaster, Calif.
Saturday Early Evening, April 29, 2006

15. During the service right before the third super special stage, Rim PR staffer Kara Davis caught up with many of the competitors who were still in the rally:

--Ken Block - #43 – second place overall – lost time to Travis in the morning because of a flat tire: We have a a good run going this afternoon; we will be using the race car to introduce a new DC Shoes driving show in January.

--George Plsek - #30 – third overall: broke his truck latch when he landed the jump on Super Special Stage II. The car is also suffering from suspension woes – he hopes to just keep it on the road and hold his podium spot.

--Leon Styles - #374 – fourth overall: the car is overheating, but, with the cooling temperatures and current service, we should be able to keep going.

--Blake Yoon - #376 – we were pleased with the new car even though the results weren’t what we hoped for. After all, we have run a Subaru all these years, and this was our first Evo experience; think we broke rear diff for DNF.

--Amy BebeVanzo - #14 – having a good run; stopped to try to pull #96 Brian Scott off the burm, but couldn’t as tow rope snapped.

--Jeff Rados - #674 – we only have third gear left, but we are keeping up.

--Marvin Ronquillo - #368 – cracked windshield on Super Special Stage, but moving up in CRS class.

--Bruce Davis - #60 – car feels great, but rally is very rough, especially for 2WD

--Chrissie Beavis - #340 – first time in a Subaru WRX – good feeling driving with co-driver as experienced as Amity; girls having a good time

--Paul Willemsen - #369 – Hit a snake in the morning stages.

--Lisa Klassen - #776 – the rally has been an adventure; lost their skid plate this morning

--Bob Pendergrass - #322 – no problems – co-driver Jonathan Weigley experiencing his first Rim

--Kristopher Marciniak - #761 – cool suit broke

--Neil Bliss - #334 – cracked radiator on Super Special Stage II

16. Travis Pastrana carried a 49-second lead into the third Super Special Stage III, and he and Block faced off in a side-by-side match-up that included the addition of a water crossing on the course. For one minute, 19 seconds of door-handle to door-handle racing which included parallel jumps, a muddy encounter at the puddle, and a dead-heat finish, the two Subarus thrilled the 1,500 people who had gathered to watch the final stadium stage. With Pastrana carrying that 15-second lead into the final two stages, and with a better night driving record, he seemed destined to win his first professional gravel rally.
